New Snapchat Spectacles – How It Works & What You Need To Know!

Just in-case you think you have seen it all, the new snapchat spectacles is about to blow your mind! Besides the filters and other amazing features of the app an additional gadget has been added to the Snapchat application – Snapchat now sells camera-equipped sunglasses capable of recording videos to be shared through the application!

According to the CEO of Snap Inc. Evan Spiegel while recounting a hiking trip he took with the glasses on quoted below:

“I could see my own memory, through my own eyes—it was unbelievable. It’s one thing to see images of an experience you had, but it’s another thing to have an experience of the experience. It was the closest I’d ever come to feeling like I was there again.”

Wondering how it works, how much it’d cost? Here are the answers to some of the questions probably running through your mind and also some of the most important things you need to know about the new Snapchat Spectacles:

• The Spectacles can record up to 10-second video clips with a 115-degree-angle lens, which is supposed to mimic how the human eye sees through a circular field of view. Note that the Spectacles only shoots videos and does not take photos.

• Currently being sold only through pop-up vending machines across the United States, they are estimated to cost about USD130. Below is what comes in the pack when you purchase a pair:

• Videos taken with Spectacles are sent to the Memories section of the Snapchat app where you can edit clips and send them to friends or your story. Estimated battery life is expected to last 24hrs of causal use, or about 16 minutes of video. Each pair will come with a charging case that can recharge the frame up to four times.

Now let’s move on to how it operates, how you can try them virtually and more. First you pair the Spectacles with your snapchat account by scanning a code in the app. You can also use Spectacles while unpaired from your phone & when you get back into pairing range, footage will sync into Memories section of the app. To start recording, you tap a button on the top of the frames – White lights will then illuminate on the front of the glasses for the length of the recording.

To stop recording, you’d tap the button again for about two seconds. You can tap up to three times to record three 10-second clips in a row!

 The Spectacles are plastic glasses that comes in three different colors: black, teal, and coral with two yellow circles sitting at the ends of the glasses: one is where the camera is housed, and the other hides a ring of LEDs that light up when the device is recording. If you wear glasses already and are worried about Spectacles not having your prescription, the company recommends consulting your optician. Below is an introductory video from Spectacles.
