Obansajo said that "If it was possible for me to remove my trousers now for you to see, I would show you where I have shrapnel or grenade. It was very close, very close and you know what that means.

"If after 43 years we are still mourning and groaning about the civil war, I wonder. The Second World War ended in 1945 and the combatants were the best of friends less than ten years after, I just believe that we should put the civil war behind us."
About 3.2 Million women and children died as a result of a deliberate policy of the Federal government to block their food and Medicine supply routes and even attacking foreign aid workers.
Dr Okey Onyeagadirnma supported Obansanjo's stand on forgiveness but regretted that the policy of deceit employed by Gowon's government after the war is the reason for the mistrust and hatred that is present in Nigeria today.
"The victims were never rehabilitated as agreed on the seize-fire terms. He pointed out that "the economic policy of deprivation used immediately after the war, made it near to impossible for the Igbos and the affected South Southerners to forget this 30 months war.
"The government stole billions of pounds belonging to Igbos and was giving them only 20 pounds irrespective of the amount they have in the bank. These funds were given to citizens of the victorious sides of Nigeria to buy up foreign Multi-National companies in the country through the Nationalisation
These trend has never changed till this day, Dr Onyeagadirnma concluded.
Whatever the case may be, it is reasonable for Nigerians to forge ahead, but the government at the center should ensure that the Igbos are properly integrated and given equal footing like other ethnic Nationalities in the country.
