The Police in Delta State have recorded no fewer than 222 armed robberies and kidnap cases in one month while it rescued eight victims and killed 36 suspects.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba,
confirming the figure, disclosed that not less than 10 armed robbery
suspects were killed within the period under review.
The Police boss attributed the successes to the genuine intelligence
gathering and inflow of information from good Deltans that had sustained
their support in the war against criminals in the state.
Saying that many of the cases were recorded in Warri, Ughelli, Abraka
and Asaba axis, the Police boss said two senior members of a vigilante
outfit in Abraka were arrested for armed robbery. He gave their names as
James Kigho and Dominion Ereka.
He explained that the hoodlums met their waterloo when they burgled
the provision store of a complainant who had earlier turned down their
request for guard duties adding that when a search was conducted in
their houses, drinks and other assorted provisions they stole from the
shops in the area were recovered.
He said, “We also killed two members of a kidnap gang terrorising
Abraka during the course of effecting arrest with their names; Freeborn
Okwundu and Monday Ekpeki.”
According to him, the suspects before their death confessed and
revealed other members of the gang which included Okotie Obakpororo
Onyinye, the mourer, Ejimatuwe Okorigho, in charge of food and Bomboy
Prince, an Okada rider, adding that the gang was responsible for the
abduction of one Josephine Okoduwa, wife of a member of the Edo State
House of Assembly, and series of armed robbery and kidnappings in the
state.
